Who we help

Whoever you are, one standard of care.

Most of our clients are tradespeople and owner-managed businesses in Northamptonshire, alongside landlords and individuals across the UK. Find yourself below to see what we typically do for people in your position.

Tradespeople

Accountants who know CIS, the reverse charge and what a van is worth to you.

Electricians, plumbers, builders, carpenters, roofers, decorators and landscapers make up most of our client list. We handle the Construction Industry Scheme from both sides, keep VAT and reverse-charge invoicing right, claim everything your van, tools and workwear entitle you to, and tell you plainly whether going limited would leave you better off.

What you usually need

  • CIS registration, monthly returns and refunds of deductions
  • VAT registration, the flat rate scheme and reverse-charge invoices
  • Sole trader or limited company comparison on your own numbers
  • Van, tools, PPE and workwear claimed in full
  • Receipt capture from your phone, reconciled monthly
  • Making Tax Digital for sole traders from April 2026

From a one-person consultancy to a trading business with staff, a limited company brings filing duties at Companies House and HMRC, a payroll, and the annual question of how best to pay yourself. We handle all of it and plan the salary and dividend mix each year.

  • Confirmation statement and Companies House filings
  • Director payroll and, where needed, staff payroll
  • Salary and dividend planning and the directors’ self assessment returns

Sole traders

Simple, accurate accounts and a tax return you do not have to think about.

If you trade in your own name, your business and personal tax are one and the same. We keep your records straight, file your self assessment, and tell you well in advance what to put aside for January and July. From April 2026 many sole traders also need to meet Making Tax Digital rules, and we set that up for you.

Working in construction? We also handle Construction Industry Scheme registration, monthly returns and reclaiming deductions.

What you usually need

  • Bookkeeping, or a tidy-up of the records you keep yourself
  • Self assessment return and payments on account explained
  • Making Tax Digital for Income Tax: software, quarterly updates and the final declaration
  • VAT registration and returns once you pass the threshold
  • Advice on when, and whether, to become a limited company
  • CIS deductions tracked and reclaimed if you work in construction

Partnerships and LLPs

Two or more of you in business together, with the paperwork that keeps it fair and compliant.

Many tradespeople and family businesses trade as a partnership, often a husband-and-wife team or two long-standing workmates. A partnership files its own tax return and each partner files their own, profits are shared under the agreement you set, and getting the records right matters even more when more than one household depends on them. We also act for limited liability partnerships, which file accounts at Companies House like a company while their members are taxed like the self-employed.

What you usually need

  • Partnership accounts and the partnership tax return, plus each partner’s own self assessment
  • Profit shares, capital accounts and drawings kept straight and agreed
  • A written partnership agreement, prepared with your solicitor, covering what happens if a partner leaves
  • VAT registered in the partnership’s name, with returns filed on time
  • LLP accounts, confirmation statements and designated members’ duties
  • Advice on when a partnership should become a limited company, and how to do it without a tax bill

Property income taxed correctly, and the big decisions made with the numbers in front of you.

Rental profits are taxed differently from trading profits, and the rules have tightened: mortgage interest is no longer a deductible expense for individual landlords and instead attracts a 20% tax credit. We prepare your property accounts, claim everything allowable, and model whether holding property through a company would leave you better off.

What you usually need

  • Rental accounts and the property pages of your self assessment return
  • Allowable expenses, replacement of domestic items relief and finance cost restriction correctly applied
  • Capital gains tax calculations and the 60-day reporting when you sell

  • Setting up bookkeeping software and a business bank account
